Default Hertfordshire Young Film Critics Awards at the St Albans Festival

Hertfordshire Young Film Critics Awards at the St Albans Festival:

Are you passionate about film from the viewer’s point of view? Are you interested in developing your writing skills in writing about films? Do you see yourself as the next big film critic? Could your reviews capture the audiences and readers imagination and attention?

The Film Education Consortium for Hertfordshire in collaboration with UH Arts presents the Young Film Critics Awards at the St Albans Festival. This special pilot awards scheme could be your chance to get creative with your film reviews and submit them in competition with others in 3 particular age groups across Hertfordshire.

Those chosen as the best in their age set will get the chance to have their best reviews hosted on the St Albans Festival website and be published on the dedicated Hertfordshire Young Film Critics Awards Website, alongside the chance to win special prizes and be put forward to represent the region in Film Education’s National Young Film Critics Awards.

Participants will be asked to submit reviews either on the films being screened as part of the St Albans Festival or films of their own choosing with an awards ceremony planned at the end of the festival in July.

The age groups are as follows:

PRIMARY (from 7 -12) – 50 -100 words
SECONDARY (12-16) 150- 200 words
FURTHER (16 - 19) 200-250 words

Our launch event will invite speakers from renowned film review publications such as BBC Films and the BFI (British Film Institute) as well as a chance to hear about how to set up a Film Club (after hours film screenings and activities) at your school. Applicants will receive a full resources pack with guidelines, examples and helpful advice on how to write an amazing film review! We are also offering a free screening of Neil Gaiman’s family fantasy Stardust (Matthew Vaughn, 2007) starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro to inspire you!

The Young Film Critics’ Awards at the St Albans Festival runs from 6th June – 14th July 2009. We are inviting applicants to attend the fantastic film screenings at the St Albans Festival as inspiration to get writing, including exciting titles such as: Bolt, The Duchess, The Dark Knight, Mamma Mia, Valkyrie and Slumdog Millionaire.

For further information please contact: Darren Elliott (Film Education Coordinator) on 01707 28 5949 or email: filmconsortium@herts.ac.uk
